Locomotive Emerald

This is a project I’ve been working on for a little while,  but first some background.

Student Media Resource is a project I started ages ago, something I’m always meaning to get round to, thing is I’m naff with wording things.  What is it you ask. Quite simply an on-line help guide for student and community media, giving advice, links to free software, instructions on how to live broadcasts, tips when dealing with copyright and litigation, etc. While i was able to put some stuff together around the technical areas that’s where my experience dried up, and getting other people to help out as been a slow process.

And that’s where it thought that could I do to try and draw some attention, start a project. I’ve worked with student TV and radio when I was at uni, and thoroughly enjoyed both, but the biggest pain in the ass above all else was dealing with the web.  If your a newspaper or a blogger, there’s wordpress, but that doesn’t suite the needs of video and radio. There are some CMS’s out there (Stationsite, GMedia) but they don’t look particularly cheap.
So I started making Locomotive Emerald (weird name I know), A CMS System for student and community radio (ie non commercial use), an open source system to be built on and used by the community. At the moment the project is still in development, you can few a work in progress site here which is being used to test and build the system. The code is also on github along with a bunch of other info.
The home of the project is here where I’ll ultimately post a download link, instructions on how to use it, etc.

But for now, I’m just going to keep working on it, and as I start building on it, try to get some more help from the web, because honestly, this is way harder that I thought.  I’m learning lots, especially when I crash my computer with my code, but at this rate it’s not gonna be finished for a long time. I’ve seen allot of projects pop up, I’ve keenly followed them before they withered away and died, NOT THIS.  I will finish this, just looking for a helping hand …
